Asakusa is best known for its traditional temples, old-fashioned shopping streets, and classic sightseeing spots, but there's a new attraction offering something rather different. VR BASE TOKYO ASAKUSA has opened inside Matsuya Asakusa department store, bringing four virtual reality experiences to the popular Tokyo neighborhood for a limited time.
Running from November 1 to December 25, 2026, the attraction offers everything from competitive gaming to virtual rollercoaster rides and an aerial adventure.
One of the main attractions is VR Survival Sports INFINITY, a free-roaming virtual reality shooting game where players can move around the virtual environment and battle in teams of up to five against five. It's priced at 1,500 JPY per person for an approximately 10-minute session.
If you'd rather enjoy the thrills without having to move around, there's Almost a Rollercoaster V - FUJIYAMA. This experience recreates the famous FUJIYAMA rollercoaster at Fuji-Q Highland using VR visuals and a motion-controlled seat, giving visitors a taste of the ride without leaving Asakusa. It also costs 1,500 JPY.
For something more relaxing, Cosmo Balloon takes up to eight participants on a virtual hot-air balloon journey past spectacular scenery around the world. There's also Ultra Reverse Bungee, a motion-based ride that simulates being launched high into the air.
