Tokyo is getting a new nighttime attraction this winter, with Yoyogi Park set to transform into an illuminated forest filled with light, music, and interactive installations.
Called Yoyogi Forest of Lights, the experience will open on November 13, 2026, and run until January 11, 2027. Rather than simply viewing illuminated decorations, visitors will be able to walk through a 1.8-kilometer route designed to engage all five senses.
The event takes inspiration from European winter traditions, where illuminated parks and outdoor spaces become gathering places during the darker months. Visitors can expect colorful light displays among the trees, atmospheric music and environmental sounds, and interactive effects that change in response to people's movements.
There will also be food and drink areas, giving visitors somewhere to take a break and enjoy the surroundings.
Yoyogi Park is already a popular spot for both locals and international visitors, particularly given its proximity to the Harajuku area and Meiji Jingu Shrine. The new illumination offers another reason to visit the area after dark, especially for travelers who enjoy photography and seasonal events.
The event will operate daily from 5:30pm to 10pm, with last entry at 9pm. Tickets are available in advance, and the venue is around a three-minute walk from Harajuku Station or Meiji-jingumae Station.
If you're visiting Tokyo during the winter season, this could be a lovely addition to an evening of exploring the city.
