夕暮れ時の清水寺界隈は美しい。店先に一つ、二つと灯りがともり、赤い毛氈の上に並べられた品々が明るく照らし出される。急ぎ足で坂道を下りていく人の波。夕闇の雰囲気を楽しみながら、産寧坂から二年坂を経て、高台寺の駐車場まで行くと、残照に八坂の塔のシルエットが浮かび上がっていた。京都の夕日は早い。うっとりと眺め入る間もなく、塔の右には京都タワーが小さく光り始め、闇が下りてきた。
