With the remake of Final Fantasy VII hitting the PlayStation 4 on April 10th 2020, Square Enix has made a fantastic limited-time café for fans to enjoy. Open from February 8th until April 24th, there are three locations across Japan to make sure all fans get a taste of the action.

The cafes

Eager fans of the game can head to any of the three cafes: Square Enix Café (Tokyo), Square Enix Café Osaka, or Artnia (Shinjuku, Tokyo). The collaboration period will be in two parts, further allowing visitors an even wider choice of one-of-a-kind themed dishes and drinks. The first half runs from February 8th to March 17th and the latter half from March 18th to April 24th.

The food and drink

From moogle-shaped bread to Cloud and Sephiroth-themed drinks, every fan is sure to find something they want on this menu. The beautifully arranged food not only looks amazing but with the café’s high-quality ingredients you can be sure it tastes amazing too.

Gift shop

Square Enix has gone above and beyond to make sure their limited merchandise is some of the best ever seen. Visitors can expect Shinra Electric Power Company lined jackets, leather bags, or fun stamp sets. There are even iron-on patches to buy. Prices are a little steep, but this merchandise will never be seen again—so die-hard fans will definitely want to get their hands on that Meteo jacket!

Special bonuses

Another fun thing to look forward to is receiving a luncheon mat with every ordered item, there are nine mats to collect, so bring a big appetite! In addition to the luncheon mats, guests also receive limited-time coasters for every 1,000 yen spent. There are eleven coasters in total, which means a lot of eating and drinking.

Getting tickets

One unfortunate aspect of this wonderful café collaboration is the ticket system. The process is in Japanese-only and can only be done through the Square Enix app (Google Play / App Store). But you can be sure you’ll need a reservation, in fact, you can’t get in without one.

You can reserve directly for all 3 locations from the Square Enix Cafe booking page, but the process will be linked to creating an official account via their app too.

If you have a willing Japanese friend to help, it can be a great boon, but bear in mind you can only use a Japan-issued credit card to complete a reservation (overseas cards are not accepted).

You'll want to hurry if you want to make it in time for this temporary cafe collaboration between Square Enix cafes and Final Fantasy VII!

For fans of Final Fantasy XIV, also be sure to check out Eorzea Cafe, a permanent cafe located in Osaka and Tokyo.
