Omiya Bonsai Village is the nickname for the bonsai nursery in Bonsai-cho, Saitama, Tokyo. The bonsai village is located near Omiya-koen Station on the Tobu-Noda Line and is closed every Thursday.
The bonsai village was founded in 1925, but due to the negative effects of the great Kanto earthquake of 1923, an alternative location to central Tokyo was sought. Because of the availability of clean water and cheap soil, the village was settled in Omiya.
Several bonsai nurseries and an excellent bonsai art museum are located in the district. Private homes in the area typically have a collection of bonsai in their gardens.
