Tanigawadake
Rufus StarbuckMount Tanigawa towers above Minakami town and is much loved by climbers and hikers. The ropeway runs year round and gives great views down the valley.
The Tanigawadake Cable Car, which first went into operation in Gunma Prefecture in 1960, goes up to the Tenjindaira ski area in Minakumi on Tanigawadake Mountain.
Tanigawadake Mountain is 1,319 meters high and is the highest mountain in the Tanigawa Mountain Range, and the cable car runs for a total length of up to 2.3 kilometers. Even if the ski resort itself is only open for winter sports in winter, the cable car is in operation all year round and not only transports skiers, but also hikers and tourists who want to enjoy the view of the extensive landscape.
In winter, however, people can experience the natural powder snow of the ski resort again, which makes the use of snow machines unnecessary.

새해 연휴 동안 나는 "I Love Outdoor" 야외 활동 회사 소유의 네이쳐 카페 ("Nature Cafe")를 방문해봤다. 래프팅과 카누를 탄 후 맛있는 햄버거를 먹는 것 보다 하루를 끝마치기에 더 좋은 방법이 과연 있을까 생각이 든다. 이곳의 주인공이라 하자면 호주인 그래시 (Damien "Grassy" Chie)를 소개한다. 지난 20년간 래프팅과 카누잉 가이드로 일하기 전에 그래시는 요리사로 일했다고 한다. 나는 고기, 치즈, 달걀, 베이컨, 양상추, 양파와 무로 만들어진 "그래시 버거"를 먹기 위해 왔다. 이 버거는 비쥬얼적으로 아름다운만큼 맛있었고 케첩으로 뿌려진 하트 모양을 담아 서빙되었다.
미나카미 지역 스키 리조트의 슬로프들에 이미 사람들이 지나간 뒤라, 우리 일행은 새 눈이 쌓여 있는 슬로프를 찾아다녔고 한 곳을 찾았다. 날씨의 빠른 변화와 니기타 현에서 불어오는 빠른 속도의 부풍은 텐진다이라 스키 리조트 지역의 축복이자 저주이다. 매우 좋은 눈이 쌓임에도 불구하고, 날씨가 나빠지면 시야 확보도 어려운데다 바람이 심하게 불면 리프트 운행조차 중단된다. 그러나 그런 날씨가 지나고 나면 다시 새로운 슬로프들이 생기니 축복이라 할 수 밖에. 또 이런 날씨가 지나고 나면, 지역 주민들이 즐겨 찾는 오지들도 생겨난다.
